Drew Korschun is currently a PhD candidate in Japanese at UC Berkeley’s Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. His dissertation explores literary cultures of Japanese-occupied northeast China (1932-1945). Specifically, it examines a “fascist utopian” aesthetic emergent in Manchukuo literature—one in which the future is improvisational and ethnically plural, and at the same time rooted in ontologized racial violence.

During the Fall 2026 semester, he is a graduate student instructor teaching Introduction to Premodern Korean Literature.
